#CREAMWARE POWERPULSAR SOFTWARE#
If the Tascam has a digital mixer with software or knob control you can use that to adjust the level and also the controls on the effect. Then insert a new audio track and choose that Tascam input for it.

Then you would patch that output to the effects and patch the output of the effect back into the Tascam on the input you plan to record from. You could also insert an Aux send on the channel in Sonar and assign that to a new buss and then route the buss to the sound card output, that would make it work just like a real mixer. Then change the output of the vocal track from the main buss "A" to go directly out the sound card output and not the pair being used by buss "A", choose the left one of the next pair if it will let you do mono or the pair. You would need to have the extra Tascam outputs enabled in Sonar.
#CREAMWARE POWERPULSAR HOW TO#
But the thing i cant figure out is how to route the track out of the Tascam into the filter/reverb/etc and then re-record it into Sonar. That is good to consider and I will likely be blending tracks to get the right sound. I like to run a test with the hardware in bypass or with just a jumper wire to see what the conversion trip does and if it's not too bad then use the effect. The change may be so small it was worth it to get the effect of the hardware or you might decide it did too much damage. It's up to you to decide if that is good or bad after you listen to it. Keep in mind that you may detect some "change" in the quality because of the D/A A/D conversion trip. In this case Sonar is the tape machine and you are just making a new track. This is exactly what we used to do in the old days when we didn't have enough stuff in the rack for each track to have their own, it was called "print" the effects to tape. During the recording you either need to route the track only to the output on your Tascam you use to drive the effect or mute all the other tracks till you get the recording done.
In the case of a reverb for example just set the reverb to 100% wet and record the output to a new track. That would become your new vocal track or depending on the effect it could just be an effects track to blend with the mix. There will be some latency to make the trip out of the computer and back in so your best bet would be to simply record the output of the external hardware on a new track then nudge it back to compensate for the delay (latency). For instance, if I wanted to use my filter on my tracked vocals, how do I run the vocal track out of the Tascam, through the vocal filter, and then back into Sonar filtered? Basically, I want to figure out how to use hardware for post effect, I know how to chain them during tracking but i can't do it during mixing. I am using a Tascam FW1082 which has 2 inserts, which would be the 'outs' for the unit, as well as 8 inputs.
I have a filter and compressor hardware that i would like to try and use for mixing but i am just not sure how to go about it. I have been reading a lot about A/D - D/A on the internet, but i just cant seem to grasp the concept of properly using outboard effects during mixing.
